It's been a long time between drinks for Gold Coast duo Noah Lolesio and Angus Blyth.

The pair last shared a dressing room for The Southport School (TSS) 1st XV back in 2016 and have taken vastly different journeys to Joe Schmidt's maiden Wallaby camp.

17-cap Lolesio's return to the national squad follows a recent one-year extension with Rugby Australia while Blyth's call-up came as a surprise to many, including the lock forward.

"It's honestly super exciting. Getting the call up and email, I was never expecting it so it's been great to be in this environment," Blyth told media on Tuesday.

"Looking forward to training hard and ripping in. (I) played with Noah back in the day so hopefully get an opportunity (to do so) this year."

Two years Blyth's junior, Lolesio looked up to the 203cm Queenslander in more ways than one during their 1st XV tenures.

"He was a bit of a big dog at school, didn't talk to me as much," Lolesio joked.

"We played 1st XV for two years - 2015 and 2016 - I was a skinny-fat winger back then and Blythy was one of the leaders in our firsts team.

"It's pretty cool we get this opportunity to be together again in the same squad."

"I think we were all in the teenager years where you're not really sure what your body's doing," Blyth added.

"I was quite skinny-fat too and being this tall, I didn't really fit into my body as a young 16-17 year-old."

Lolesio and Blyth aren't the only TSS products in Camp Wallaby this week with five-Test tighthead prop Zane Nonggorr also included.

"(Zane)'s first year of 1st XV was my last in 2017, he's still the same size," Lolesio said.

"He's been the same size since under 11s, it's ridiculous … but it's good to see the progression come through.

"TSS is such a great rugby school. They've got a great rugby program and they put a lot of effort into producing players so it's been great coming through."

That being said, Camp Wallaby's a far cry from schoolboy footy and the pair are already feeling the heat with coach Schmidt and his assistants launching into an intensive training block.

"We had our first proper session this morning, bit of a tough one hey, just jamming in a lot of detail," Lolesio said.

"Obviously there's not much time with the first game against Wales next week.

"(Joe)'s real hard on doing the real simple things well and staying in every phase so that's one thing I've learned so far off Joe is you can have all the best shape in the world but if you don' get the fundamentals right, you've got no platform to play off."
