The University of Queensland has won the 2019 Aon University Sevens Series after winning the gold medal against Griffith University on Sunday afternoon.
The win was the University of Queensland’s second Gold medal win of the series, meaning that they topped the ladder on 76 points.
University of Queensland Head Coach, Reg Taylor said: “We’re relieved, we have a young group and I’m proud of what they’ve achieved today.
“The girls have learnt a lot this series, they continue to play in more games and more pressure moments and today all those learning came to fruition.
“It's great to get the win, both in our home leg back in round one and again now, taking out the series and I couldn’t be any prouder of the squad.”
In other results of the day, round hosts, the University of Canberra took out the bronze medal after they defeated the University of Adelaide 31-26. In front of a vocal home crowd, the Canberra based side secured their place on the podium for the second time in the competition.
In the battle for fifth place, the University of Sydney defeated the University of Technology Sydney 21-17, securing their spot in third on the ladder.
