St.George Queensland Reds captain Liam Wright is expected to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after suffering an ankle injury during last Friday’s trial match against the Waratahs in Narrabri.

Wright underwent scans upon returning to Brisbane which revealed a high ankle sprain (syndesmosis) to his left foot.

The 23-year-old remains the club captain and will continue to perform his leadership duties with the Queensland playing squad and staff.

An interim on-field captain will be announced in due course ahead of next week’s Round 1 Super Rugby AU season opener against New South Wales.
