Promising teenage outside back Nic Lynagh has been signed on a one-year deal to boost his development through the Buildcorp Reds Academy.

The 18-year-old will fly in from London later this month to join older brother Tom at Ballymore.

He will be advanced as part of Queensland's exciting crop of pathway talent under the guidance of Academy Head Coach Dale Roberson and Head of Athletic Performance Will Brown.

Nic is the youngest son of Wallabies great Michael Lynagh, the 1991 World Cup-winner who enjoyed a celebrated career across 100 games for the Reds in the 1980s and '90s.

Older brothers Tom, 22 and Louis, 24, have already played Test rugby for Australia and Italy respectively. Louis scored one of the Italian tries last weekend in the Test win over the Wallabies in Udine.

The Lynagh clan was in the stands in Udine.

"I've only heard good things about the Reds from Tom. He's the one who planted the idea in my mind," Nic said.

"The lifestyle in Queensland, the environment to improve, learning a completely different style of game...Tom has been very positive about it all. It's made him a better player.

"I watched a lot of the Reds on TV this year so I like the way the Reds play as well.

"The move worked out for Tom. It might for me. I'm going to go for it."

Lynagh plays fullback and wing and enjoyed three months in the senior Academy with leading English club Harlequins earlier this year.

Today’s announcement by the Queensland Rugby Union builds on an upbeat raft of signings from the state’s rugby pathways. Teenage backs Nicholas Conway and Treyvon Pritchard were named last week in the 38-man Reds squad for 2026. Finn Mackay, Kingsley Uys and Will Ross have been included in the Reds Development Squad and will continue their development alongside further signings Taione Taka, Bennett Armistead and Levi Slater.

"We've been tracking Nic's development as a good young player for some time, right back to when the Reds signed Tom five years ago," said Sam Cordingley, the Reds General Manager, High Performance.

"The connection through his brother will make the transition easier at Ballymore. We are looking forward to seeing Nic develop in the Academy under Dale and Will."
