When Siokapesi Palu Sekona speaks, people listen; and when she plays, people follow.
Proud of her Tongan and Samoan heritage and representing Australia on the international stage, ‘Pesi’ has become one of the most respected leaders in world rugby. A powerful, dynamic and selfless competitor, she leads with both her actions and her words, setting the standard for those around her every time she pulls on a jersey.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Pesi first picked up rugby at 18 after a background in netball, beginning her rugby journey with Maroubra Magic before establishing herself as a cornerstone of the ACT Brumbies program. Since making her Brumbies debut in 2020 against the Western Force at GIO Stadium as Brumbies cap #49, she has become one of the most influential players to ever represent the club.
Her impact extends far beyond her physicality. While renowned for her powerful ball carries, dominant defence and relentless work rate, it is her leadership and rugby intelligence that have elevated her to another level. Comfortable playing both in the midfield and the backrow, Pesi's versatility, tactical understanding and ability to inspire teammates have made her invaluable in every team she represents.
In 2024, she was recognised as the Brumbies Women's Player of the Year, further cementing her status as one of the competition's premier players. Her rise continued on the international stage after making her Wallaroos debut in 2022 against New Zealand in Adelaide as Wallaroo #194. She would later become the 18th captain of the Wallaroos, a fitting honour for a player who embodies everything the jersey stands for.
Away from rugby, Pesi works as a youth worker and counsellor in education, helping guide and support young people while continuing to be a role model within the rugby community. A talented musician who has played piano, trumpet and saxophone since childhood, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, grabbing a coffee and exploring her passion for music.
Heading into the 2026 season, Palu Sekona remains the heartbeat of the Brumbies; a fierce competitor, respected captain and leader who continues to play with immense pride, purpose and heart for her teammates.
