Rugby Australia has announced the suspension of the U16 Junior Rugby Championship (JRC), U19 Rugby Championship (URC), all U18 National Academy matches and any interstate elements of the Junior Gold Cup (U15s).

However, the Queensland U16 JRC teams will still be chosen, with Maroon and White sides set to play against each other in September.

The Emerging Reds Cup (ERC) will also still go ahead without the participation of the Melbourne and National Indigenous teams.

Four Queensland teams – Brisbane Grey, Brisbane White, SEQ Barbarians and Central Qld Regional Barbarians – will contest the competition during the September school holidays.

Although the scheduled Reds U15 game against the New South Wales Waratahs will not go ahead, a Reds U15 Merit team will be selected at the end of the ERC.

Queensland Reds Head of Academy Paul Carozza said: “Although disappointing, Rugby Australia’s decision to suspend interstate pathways competitions is the right one.

“The Reds Academy will still provide good players the opportunity to test themselves against the best players in their age group.”
