The Queensland Rugby Union and Rugby Australia are excited to announce Jordan Petaia has re-signed with Australian Rugby through 2024.

After making his debut in 2018, the 22-year-old has played 35 games for Queensland, scoring eight tries in the maroon jersey.

The Brisbane State High School product made his Wallabies debut at the Rugby World Cup in 2019, winning the Rugby Australia Rookie of the Year award the same year.

The two-year deal will mean the versatile outside back is available for the 2023 World Cup in Paris, with Petaia already having 16 Wallaby caps to his name.

Petaia said: "I'm very happy and grateful to have re-signed with the Reds and Rugby Australia.

“We have built something special here at Ballymore and I love being around the playing group and staff in Queensland.

"I have so much room to grow and things to achieve here in Australia and the current environment at the Reds and the Wallabies can help me get there.

"With my immediate future secured, it allows me to focus on improving my game on the field and I'll be doing everything I can to give myself the best opportunity to be at my best for selections this year and the next.”

Queensland Rugby General Manager – Professional Rugby Sam Cordingley said: "We are delighted that Jordy has committed through 2024.

“Jordy is a wonderful talent and an outstanding young man and we are proud to have him at our club.

“It’s a great outcome for the Reds and Wallabies. There was extraordinary interest in Jordy from some of the world’s biggest spending clubs, so I’d like to acknowledge Rugby Australia and Jordy’s manager for their efforts to get a positive result through the negotiation.”

Petaia joins fellow Wallabies and Reds teammates Tate McDermott, Fraser McReight, James O’Connor, Taniela Tupou, Filipo Daugunu and Harry Wilson in signing with Queensland and Rugby Australia through 2023, while he becomes the second Reds player behind Josh Flook to commit to staying at Ballymore through 2024.
