The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) are pleased to welcome six passionate volunteers who will report on grassroots Rugby across the state.

All studying journalism or communications degrees at university, the six budding reporters have been allocated key focus areas around Queensland and will provide weekly competition wraps and feature articles, plus detail exciting events happening in their respective region.

QRU Head of Communications Tom Mitchell said: "This is a great initiative for Queensland Rugby.

"Storytelling is the communal currency of our society. There are so many great stories across this great state and now we have the opportunity to tell these.

"From the Port Douglas Reef Raiders in Far North Queensland to the Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators on the Gold Coast – we'll cover different clubs, competitions and the many people who represent our Queensland Rugby community.

"Getting your foot in the door is one of the biggest obstacles for any journalist during or following uni.

"Our entire Marketing & Communications Department all began their careers here at the QRU as volunteers. We're proud to offer and showcase that pathway and hopefully we can provide these guys and girls with the experience and knowledge to take their career to the next level during their time at the QRU," said Mitchell.

The six volunteers have been split-up into five key areas/and or regions concerning Community Rugby that include, but are not limited to:

  • North Queensland (Cairns, Townsville, Mt Isa)
  • Central Queensland (Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Central Highlands)
  • South Queensland (Darling Downs, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast)
  • Women's Rugby
  • Schools Rugby

If you have a story from your Rugby region that you feel should be told, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Community Comms team by completing this jotform: https://bit.ly/CommunityRugbyStory.
