The Queensland Rugby Union today announced its seventh consecutive operating profit, with 2025 earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of $813,997.

The result was driven by an increase in commercial partnership and game day revenues including the Queensland Reds’ tour match against the British and Irish Lions. The result is a significant  improvement on the 2024 EBITDA result of $199,832.

QRU Chief Executive Officer David Hanham said the commercialisation of the Ballymore precinct was underpinning the continuing stability of the union.

“Our focus has been on building a business model for long-term sustainability,” he said. “Our continued growth in partnership revenue is a testament to our strong relationship with commercial partners and the value they see in Queensland rugby.

“The QRU remains focused on accelerating the commercialisation of our Ballymore facility and finding partners for the 4000m2 of commercial development already approved for the precinct. Since the construction of the BMS National Rugby Training Centre in 2023, Ballymore has moved from a more than $1 million annual loss to closer to break-even.

“The QRU’s strategy of achieving financial success and stability independent of the Reds’ on-field performance is succeeding.”

The QRU reported a statutory loss of $1,110,425, due to the significant depreciation charge of $1,760,856 across Ballymore precinct assets, including the BMS National Rugby Training Centre (NRTC). This compares to 2024’s reported statutory loss of $1,647,196, which included depreciation charges of $1,704,693.
