Simon Craig appointed interim Queensland Reds Super W head coach, as Rama Chand steps down from role

Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) today confirmed that Queensland Reds Super W head coach Rama Chand has stepped down from his position, effective immediately.

Chand has made the decision to step away from the program due to personal reasons, and in his place, assistant coach Simon Craig will take over as interim head coach while assistant coach Manuel Cole-Manolis will remain in his current role.

High performance manager for Women’s Rugby – Reg Tayler – said: “I believe Rama has done a great job over the last 12 months, guiding the program throughout the pandemic in challenging times, whilst working hard to unearth talent from club Rugby and junior ranks, helping to establish the Academy program which began last October.

“Simon, who joined the program in late 2021, comes with a wealth of experience in Queensland Premier Rugby and will take over as interim head coach and will guide the team, with the assistance of Manuel, throughout the remainder of the Super W season.

“We wish Rama all the best for the future and hope to see him return to the coaching arena.”

The Queensland Reds begin their Super W campaign with a Round 1 clash against the Western Force in Perth on Friday, kick-off at 6:45pm AEST.
